-Wine Enthusiast

"Hot on the nose, with earthy berry aromas and touch of animal fur, this is a rich wine with a blanket-like mouthfeel. Concentrated, almost stewy flavors of spice and chocolate-infused blackberry finish oaky, chocolaty and medicinal."

Wine Description

"The 2011 Kaiken Ultra Malbec begins with a really lovely, really enticing aroma of plum, blackberry, violets and just a hint of smoked meat. Tasting reveals tons of rich plum and blackberry fruit just like the nose along with a smooth, dense texture, great balance and very good acidity. It ends dry with long lasting rich dark fruit and a little oaky spice. This is an extremely delicious, full-bodied wine but you’ll definitely want to decant it a couple hours before serving for it to be at its best. It makes a great match with steaks and other grilled meats."

-Reverse Wine Snob

In 2001 Aurelio Montes, sr. winemaker and founding partner of Viña Montes in Chile, visited Mendoza in Argentina. He was immediately seduced and impressed by its people, terroir, viticulture and enology, and excited by the opportunity to both learn from and contribute his own experience to a wine industry open to innovation. He saw the tremendous potential of the region and of Argentinean wines around the world.

After further exploratory trips, Kaiken was founded in 2002.

Like the Caiquenes (wild geese) that fly over Patagonia between Argentina and Chile, Montes decided to cross the Andes Mountains which separate the two countries. The aim was clear: to make great wines by combining the exceptional conditions of the Mendoza region with the talents of professionals from Argentina and Chile. Wines that show the best of both sides of the Andes.

The Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon Reservas from Kaiken are faithful examples of the varietal expression of the Mendoza terroir. These are elegant, sensuous wines with ample fruit, a wide range of aromas, and just the right amount of influence from six months’ aging in French oak.
This line also includes a fresh rosé made from Argentina’s emblematic variety, Malbec.
